The Colchester Baptist Church is located in Eld Lane. We are a town centre church with the doors open during the week for different activities as we seek to serve God in the local community. Our purpose is to follow Jesus Christ and make Him known. Our vision is to be a growing, thriving, nurturing family of God.

We seek to be a welcoming fellowship in all that we do so that people looking for a place of worship will find this a church in which to settle, integrate, grow and serve. We are pleased to welcome everyone to our services - You do not need to wear posh clothes or do anything special to come to this church: come as you are. You are welcome whether you are just looking at what church is about, studying at the university, on holiday in the area, or looking for a new church. We have a full range of activities for children on Sunday mornings.

The church has been established in Colchester since 1689. Baptists first met in an unknown premises in East Street but has occupied the same site in Eld Lane since the land was purchased in 1711. At that time it is thought a house occupied the site where the members met until firstly the house was enlarged and subsequently the present church building was constructed and the house demolished.

‘Open Door’ is a place for all to come and find welcome, tea and coffee, friendship and a listening ear. This is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-2pm. You can find out more at Open Door.

Other weekday activities include Youth and children’s activities (carer and toddler groups, youth club, Girls’ Brigade, Scouts and Cubs), Badminton, Bowls, Study Groups, Prayer Nights, Worship Service, Book Club, and a Craft Group Carer.

Sunday services are held at 10.30 am and 6.30 pm with Communion on the first Sunday morning and the third Sunday evening of each month. Our services are usually a blend of both traditional and modern songs and hymns, accompanied by the organ or our music group which consists of keyboard, guitar, flutes, and drums.

Links are maintained with students from Essex University which adds a different dimension to our congregation. The web site for Colchester Baptist Church can be found at Colchester Baptist Church.
